Black Friday and Cyber Monday US internet sales: Online sales in the US surged to great heights on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving and marks the commencement of holiday sales whereas Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving. Surveys showed that the online sales this year on Black Friday and Cyber Monday ascended higher than expected.
Officials and experts say that the Christmas discounts and active promotional campaigns had driven over 50 million Americans to online stores to shop on this Friday. In comparison to last year’s 3.2% , surveys showed that Black Friday sales were 9.8% of all online sales of 2011. The surprising part is that all these sales were via mobile devices. More than half of these purchases were via Apple products including iPads and iPhones.
Black Friday also marked a surge on social networking sites. According to statistics these sites experienced a haste because people were sharing opinions about purchases.
Cyber Monday, as expected, overpowered the Black Friday hype. As compared to last year, online purchases on Cyber Monday were a staggering 20% higher in 2011.
Sales from mobile devices were up 8.5% whereas department stores experienced a surge of up to 39%.
According to the NRF a total of 226 million shoppers availed the four day shopping shopping fiesta on this holiday weekend. This shows that internet purchases especially via mobile devices have become a trend in the US, people are much more comfortable putting their trust in online stores.
